I did not hurry in to eat at P.F. Chang's China Bistro when it opened last November. There was so much hype and such big crowds that I figured they didn't need help from the Life in Sacramento Restaurant Guide. Besides, how could Chinese food be any better than Simon's on 16th street?
It was in middle of February when my mom and I went to lunch at P.F. Chang's. I really wanted to hate P.F. Chang's because they have over 90 locations. I generally prefer restaurants that are unique to Sacramento. My mother had sampled the Chicken in Lettuce Wraps at an event at the Crocker Art Museum... so we ordered them again. Fantastic.
P.F. Chang's is located in a renovated historic structure. The building has an impressive stairway that leads to the balcony. The fact that waitors and waitress' can endure this staircase is even more impressive. Weekday reservations are recommended 4 to 5 days in advance. Weekend reservations should be made at least a week in advance. Valet parking is available.
P.F. Chang's is not your standard Chinese food. Their own menu describes it this way: "The menu features traditional Chinese offerings as well as innovative dishes that illustrate the emerging influence of Southeast Asia on modern Chinese cuisine." Everything we tried was very good. You really just have to try P.F. Chang's China Bistro for yourself.
